How does someone get a deviated or crooked nose?

Go Back to Revision Rhinoplasty

Causes and Treatments for Deviated or Crooked Nose

There are several causes of the deviated and crooked nose. Most commonly, it is the result of trauma, motor vehicle accidents with facial trauma, altercations, falls, etc. Some people are born with a naturally divergent nose. In some cases, technical misadventures, or more commonly scarring after a rhinoplasty may cause this problem. Many times it is just a cosmetic nuisance, but it may also be significant enough to cause upper airway compromise, or breathing difficulties.

What is a Deviated or Crooked Nose?

A deviated or crooked nose is a common condition that affects many people. It can be caused by various factors, such as genetics, trauma, or natural development. The nose is composed of bone, cartilage, and soft tissues, and any imbalance or misalignment in these structures can cause a crooked nose.

Causes and Symptoms

Deviated or crooked nose can be caused by a variety of factors. Some of the most common causes include:

  • Trauma or injury to the nose
  • Genetics and natural development
  • Structural abnormalities in the nose
  • Medical conditions, such as sinusitis or allergies

Some common symptoms of nasal deviation include:

  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Snoring or sleep apnea
  • Nasal congestion
  • Facial pain or headaches
  • Nosebleeds

Treatments for Deviated or Crooked Nose

There are several treatments available for nasal deviation, depending on the severity of the condition. Some common treatments include the following:

  • Nasal sprays or medications to relieve symptoms
  • Septoplasty or rhinoplasty surgery to correct the alignment of the nose
  • Functional rhinoplasty to improve breathing
  • Balloon sinuplasty to relieve sinus blockages

It is important to consult with a qualified surgeon or physician to determine the best course of treatment for your deviated nose. With the right treatment, you can breathe easier and achieve a more balanced, symmetrical facial appearance.
