Description

The abdominoplasty is a very popular plastic surgery procedure. Most people outside of the plastic surgery industry are aware of the abdominoplasty procedure and refer to it as as the tummy tuck.

The abdominoplasty procedure gives patients a more desirable physical appearance. The procedure removes excess fat and skin that surrounds the stomach. No one wants to have sagging, excessive skin and fat on their body, but this not always an easily obtainable result. Liposuction is another popular cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat and is minimally invasive with little recovery time. The abdominoplasty is much different from liposuction because it requires the patient to be put under general anesthesia. During surgery, the patient is cut across their lower abdomen and vertically down the center of the stomach.

Typically, tummy tuck patients have a two-week recovery time. The recovery process includes limited physical activity and requires the patient to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling. Dressings and bandages are used directly after surgery and are kept on until the postoperative appointment.

Your pain will be at its worst for the first three days after surgery and should diminish substantially after this. You should, however, get up and move about on the day after your surgery, attend to your basic needs, and cough and deep breathe as instructed. When sleeping or reclining, you should have two pillows under your knees, and your back slightly upright to reduce tension on the incision.
